The Pathways to Education Program™ offers you an opportunity to make a long-lasting, positive difference in the lives of young people. Whether a volunteer tutor or mentor, as an adult interested in our youth and willing to donate consistent time and energy to support them, you are making a strong, collective statement about how much and how many people believe in the capabilities of our youth.

Commitment: Volunteer postions are from September 2011 to June 2012. 

 

Volunteer Positions:  Two positions are available.

 

Tutor

Group Mentor


Volunteers able to tutor high school Math, Sciences and volunteers able to tutor school subjects in French are specially needed.
Volunteer tutors:
• Commit to one evening per week for 3 hours to tutor students in small groups;
• Tutor students with a range of abilities in subjects from grades 9 to 12;
• Specialize in at least one subject (Math, Sciences, French)
 
• Are available to mentor a group of 15 students with one or two other co-mentors;
• Commit to a mentoring group, two hours every week
• Offer ideas applying communication and negotiation skills to activities, a theme or a group project.

Who should attend the volunteer information session?

All those interested in obtaining a volunteer position with Regent Park Pathways to Education.
What information will be provided at the information session?
You will learn the necessary steps to become a Regent Park Pathways to Education volunteer.
You will be given an overview of the organization.
You will be presented with current and future volunteer opportunities with Regent Park Pathways to Education.
You will have the opportunity to ask questions and have your questions answered.
You will be able to book an interview with the volunteer coordinator
 
How long the volunteer information session will last?
The session will last approximately two hours; there will be time to fill out a volunteer application form.

What to bring to the volunteer information session?
The day of the Information session you may like to bring your resume. You also have the option to bring the names and phone numbers of two references. When possible, we like to complete the reference checking before conducting the one on one interview.
Your references must know you for at least one year. We accept only professional references. They might include your supervisors either from pay work or voluntary work. No friends, family, doctors, social workers, case workers are accepted as references.
